Hello everyone from Bavaria! I started my SCREMES SUMMER this week by drinking my weight in wine along the Rhine — CRISPY, slate-laden Rieslings every single day; I’m in heaven. (If you’ve read my SAME PAGE interview, you know.)

these were insane

Last week, I mentioned having only read 13 of the ‘100 best books’ from that Guardian list. Well, I brought The Master and Margarita with me as the first of my summer reads. I’m cracking myself up as quietly as I can as I read it before bed it night. I love having a summer read. How fun! I just arrived at a new house and I plan on spending the majority of tomorrow sunbathing on the loungers in the back garden reading. In my SCREMES SUMMER mindset, it was fun to read Sundberg’s summer novel survey in Feed Me.

Would nevvvver have expected Lonesome Dove…I guess you really don’t always know what other people are up to! For what it’s worth, the Secret History got three mentions, but I’m sorry that reallllly is a winter book. You must (MUST!) read The Little Friend this summer. Freak yourself out! It’s so totally fun. (It’s one of the novels I suggested for Open Book Club NYC last summer.)

HEAT WAVE: Gothic Summer Novels
The list this week is very fitting. I finished Leigh Stein’s gothic novel, If You're Seeing This, It's Meant for You, on the beach at Rockaway last Sunday. I’m so here for gothic summer novels. Because summer is not over. Shawn knows the vibe. Read his list and then subscribe to his newsletter…
